해안 | 파도와 바람이 머무는 곳

제주 서쪽, 차귀도가 눈앞에 펼쳐지는 용수리 해안에 ‘카페 해안’의 증축이 마무리되었다. 이곳은 거센 파도와 부드러운 바람이 뒤섞이며 머무는 장소로, 끊임없이 변화하는 자연의 경계에서 사유의 시간이 흐른다.

‘바다와 육지의 경계’라는 개념을 공간적으로 해석하는 데 집중했다. 바다는 매순간 그 얼굴을 달리하며 육지에 다가오고, 육지는 그 경계에서 끊임없이 밀려드는 바다를 품는다. 그 모호함과 유동성은 단단한 건축 안에서 자유롭게 숨 쉴 수 있는 틈을 제공한다.

새로운 매스는 기존 구조를 해치지 않으면서도 수평선을 따라 유려하게 이어진다. 공간은 단순한 확장을 넘어, 빛과 그림자의 농도에 따라 밀도 있게 짜여졌다. 실내에 있어도 시선은 늘 바깥의 풍경을 넘나들고, 파도 소리와 바람은 여과 없이 공간 깊숙이 스며든다.

계절과 날씨, 시간에 따라 표정이 달라지는 이 공간은 여전히 조용히, 그러나 단단하게 해안에 자리하고 있다..

Haean | A Place Where Waves and Wind Stay

On the western coast of Jeju, facing the serene view of Chagwido Island, the extension of Cafe Haean has been completed. This site, where crashing waves and gentle winds intermingle, offers a place for contemplation at the ever-changing boundary of nature.

The design focused on spatially interpreting the concept of “the boundary between sea and land.” The sea, constantly shifting, reaches toward the land, while the land embraces the sea’s relentless approach. This ambiguity and fluidity are given room to breathe freely within the solidity of architecture.

The new volume extends gracefully along the horizon without disrupting the existing structure. Rather than a simple expansion, the space is composed with density, shaped by the intensity of light and shadow. Even indoors, the gaze drifts outward, and the sounds of waves and wind permeate deep into the space without obstruction.

This space, whose character changes with the seasons, weather, and time of day, remains quietly yet firmly rooted along the shore.
