제주 아라동의 조용한 주거지에 자리한 하우스 K는 1층의 카페와 2‧3층의 주거 공간이 한 건물 안에 공존하는 복합주택입니다. 이곳은 ‘머무름’과 ‘지나감’의 경계 위에서 일상과 여행이 만나는 장소로, 개인의 사적인 삶과 지역의 공공성이 자연스럽게 어우러지는 건축을 지향합니다.

건물은 대지의 경사와 도로 조건을 따라 단차를 두고 배치되었으며, 남향의 큰 창을 통해 제주의 햇살과 바람을 적극적으로 받아들입니다. 내부는 카페의 개방적인 분위기와 대비되도록 주거층에는 차분하고 안정적인 공간감을 부여하여, 위로 갈수록 점차 사적인 영역으로 전환되는 수직적 흐름을 만들어 냅니다.

외관은 단정한 매스와 절제된 재료감으로 구성되어 있으며, 흰색 스터코와 콘크리트, 목재의 조합은 주변 주택가의 맥락 속에서도 자연스럽게 녹아듭니다. 밤이 되면 카페의 따뜻한 조명이 도로변을 은은히 비추며, 이웃과 방문객 모두에게 열린 장소로 기능합니다.

하우스 K는 일상적인 삶의 풍경 속에서 ‘거주’와 ‘만남’의 가능성을 동시에 품은 제주형 도시 주택의 새로운 모델로 제시됩니다.

House K | Where Everyday Life Meets Journey

House K, located in the quiet residential area of Ara-dong, Jeju, is a mixed-use residence that combines a café on the first floor with living spaces on the second and third floors. Positioned at the threshold between “staying” and “passing by,” the house serves as a place where everyday life and travel intersect, seeking an architecture in which private living and public community coexist naturally.

The building follows the slope of the site and the surrounding road conditions, creating a subtle level difference. Large south-facing windows invite Jeju’s sunlight and wind deep into the interior. In contrast to the openness of the café, the upper residential floors are designed to convey a calm and stable spatial atmosphere, forming a vertical flow that gradually transitions into more private areas toward the top.

The exterior is composed of clean masses and restrained materials. The combination of white stucco, exposed concrete, and wood harmonizes naturally with the surrounding neighborhood. At night, the café’s warm lighting softly illuminates the roadside, functioning as an open and welcoming space for both residents and visitors.

House K presents a new model of urban housing in Jeju—an architecture that embraces both “dwelling” and “encounter” within the everyday landscape.
