Urðr is a space designed to harmonize with Jeju’s mid-mountain landscape and pastoral scenery. Inspired by the breathtaking view stretching from Hallasan to the sea, the architecture was conceived to fully embrace and experience nature. Drawing from Urðr, the sacred and mystical well in Norse mythology, the design flows naturally, connecting seamlessly to a sky-reflecting well, enhancing the visual sequence and capturing the mystical essence of Jeju’s landscape.

The horizontal and modern façade blends harmoniously with Jeju’s stone walls, creating a sense of unity with the surrounding scenery. The cylindrical mass, subtly shifted off its central axis, accentuates the enigmatic beauty of Jeju’s nature. Upon entering, the sloped terrain unfolds into an expansive space, creating a dramatic contrast. Tiered seating follows the natural contours of the land, seamlessly extending towards the exterior well through a panoramic glass wall. The well, mirroring the sky beyond the window, transforms with time and seasons, evoking a sense of sacredness.

Designing a refined yet immersive spatial experience on sloped terrain was a challenge, requiring a delicate balance between nature and architecture. Moving forward, the focus remains on integrating geometric forms with Jeju’s distinctive natural environment, using minimalistic geometry to amplify the dramatic effect of the landscape while crafting spaces that invite nature inside.
